There’s a cover-up in logo golf caps taking place right before your eyes! However, in the golf tournament business, that is a good thing. As a disclaimer, we sell logo golf caps marketing our own trademark “Gotta-Grip?” logo cap to consumers and golfers who shop on our web site and purchase the retail version of our products. The many distributors that market our Gotta-Grip product to the over 150,000 corporate and charity golf tournaments each year in the US also offer custom logo golf caps from a variety of manufacturers and importers. A golf cap can be a very important part of what tournaments purchase for the event because the cap and the logo are going to be seen, at least during the event. I have played in probably two dozen tournaments over the last 15 years and I received a cap at almost every one. I have often wondered if I was ordering caps, what would be the things I would require from a hat for an event. The answer is that it would need to be a quality product, but not be of a design or color scheme that detracts from the sponsor’s logo. What I wouldn’t want is something that is discarded by the wearer as soon as they get off the course. I would want to offer my guests something they would feel good about wearing to a picnic, working around the house or even for an informal night out on the town. In a retail setting like we have here on our web site where we sell one at a time caps, the choices are: What Color? What Style? What Buckle Type, etc. However, for tournament directors, they are trying to please everyone with one item. Hard to do with golf balls, let alone an apparel item. Tournaments are becoming smarter, as are the golf tournament management companies, and promotional distributors that sell to them. One of the ways they are helping make apparel decisions is to pre-register their guests online. By knowing how many women and how many men are registered, they can order color variations that may be pleasing to each group. Golf caps are generally priced more favorably than high-end golf shirts so ordering extras to make sure all your players are covered is not a big expense. I must admit that the tournaments where everybody gets the exact same thing is safer bet and could even be construed as politically correct, but personal touches and attention to detail can be one of the ways you separate yourself from your competition. Companies that make or import and decorate caps have become more sophisticated in their approach to reaching out with choices. The number of options, colors, styles, and materials can create millions of combinations. They main thing to consider is that your guests and the companies supporting your tournaments deserve the best option you can give them for their day at your event. Color choices are perhaps the easiest to figure if you have a good idea of who is playing in your tournament. In the end, you will be rewarded for offering something pleasing that looks good embroidered and serves its purpose, keeping heads cool and eyes shaded. Pre-registration of golfers can help you determine ahead of time whose eyes you are protecting. Practice, practice, practice…Enjoy Golf!
